Privacy Policy
Who we are
Hearth is a shared-expense manager for the household you live in, operated by Snowah. For any privacy question, contact hello@snowah.com.
We are the data controller for the processing described here under the GDPR.
What this policy covers
This policy explains what the Hearth mobile app does with information. It does not cover third-party services that have their own policies, which we link where relevant.
What we collect and why
We collect only what the app needs to work:
- Account data: your email address (used to send a passwordless magic-link sign-in) and the sign-in tokens that keep you signed in.
- Your household data: expenses, recurring bills, settlements, budgets, balances, and the member names you add. Hearth is offline-first — this lives on your device and is synced to our server so the other members of your household see it on their devices.
- If you enable notifications, a push token (Firebase Cloud Messaging) so household reminders can be delivered.
- Anonymous, aggregated usage analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase) and crash diagnostics (Firebase Crashlytics).
Legal bases (GDPR Article 6)
- Performance of our agreement with you (providing the app and its core features).
- Your consent, for optional diagnostics and, where applicable, personalised advertising; you can withdraw consent at any time in the app or device settings.
- Our legitimate interests in keeping the app secure, stable, and free of abuse, balanced against your rights.
- Compliance with legal obligations, such as tax records for purchases.
Service providers and recipients
We share data only with processors that help us run the app:
- Our own Hearth sync backend (hosted on Fly.io in the EU), which stores your household's shared data and routes realtime updates between members' devices.
- Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Cloud Messaging), for usage and stability reporting and notifications.
- Apple App Store and Google Play, for distribution and updates.
International transfers
Some providers may process data outside your country. Where they do, transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep data
Account and app data are kept while your account is active and deleted within a reasonable period after you delete it, except where law requires us to keep records (for example, purchase receipts).
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, and port your data, and to object to certain processing. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
You can delete your account from inside the app (Profile, then Delete account), which erases your data on our server and revokes your sign-in. Signing out clears Hearth's data from the device (your household stays on the server and re-downloads when you sign back in). You can also email us to request deletion. Analytics and crash data are anonymous; turn off notifications to stop the push token.
Children
These apps are not directed to children under the age required by your local law for digital consent, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Security
We use industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit and access controls, to protect information. No method is perfectly secure, but we work to keep risk low.
Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected here with a new date. Last updated 19 May 2026.
